Designed to provide a "Green Lung" to Islanders, the park is situated on the former town gasworks which later became a car park.
The park was designed after extensive consultation. Its modern design aims to meet the needs of the community and includes active and passive recreational areas and has subsequently won numerous awards including the Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom Awards, Sustainable Landscaping Award in 2012, the Local Government News Street Design Urban Green Space Award 2013 and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Community Benefit Award in 2014
The park is open to the public all day, every day.
Ball park and toilets are open to the public from:
October to May: 08.30 - 19.00 June to September: 08.30 - 20.00
